“The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.” -Psalm 74:16
People have a tendency to view leaders who are in full-time ministry as being at a higher level of perfection than themselves. We may unfortunately place pastors, teachers and missionaries on a pedestal that often leaves them with no room for failure. Is this healthy though? While I do believe leaders should obtain a certain level of maturity and integrity, the truth is that leaders are just as susceptible to flaws and failures as their followers are. This reality should be a relief. Our leaders are much more relatable to us than we often realize, and we should leave room for their honesty and transparency. It is an honor to interview my friend Bethany Deese, who is a full-time missionary in Cambodia. In 2020, Bethany found herself plunging into overwhelming exhaustion, uncontrollable anxiety and heavy depression all at the same time after pushing herself to her limit. This led her to one of the lowest valleys of her life, but she found a surprising victory when the Father God met her there. Bethany weaves her story into a personal psalm that is moving, relatable and inspirational. Click here to hear her story: https://rumble.com/v4g54nl-episode-16-victory-in-the-valley.html.
